Latvia has designated UAS Geographical Zones (UGZ) under Regulation (EU) 2019/947. These are published in the BGKIS system and define where drone operations are permitted, restricted, or prohibited without prior authorisation.
How to check zones
Before any flight, check the BGKIS interactive map:
- airspace.lv/drones — quick public overview
- ais.lgs.lv/page/UAS_geozones — official Latvia AIS UGZ map with current activations
Both show colour-coded zones. Always check both the zone type and any active temporary restrictions (NOTAMs).

| Yellow | Operations permitted with prior notification to BGKIS or CAA |
| Red | Prohibited without specific CAA authorisation |

BGKIS flight filing
For flights in notification-required zones, file a flight notification via the BGKIS portal. The portal is available in Latvian and confirms receipt electronically.
