UAS geographical zone (geo-zone)

A portion of airspace set by the member state where drone flights are facilitated, restricted or excluded — airports, cities, protected areas.

A UAS geographical zone is a portion of airspace established by the member state where drone operations are facilitated, restricted or excluded altogether. Zones typically protect airports, military sites, national parks and densely built-up city areas, and each zone carries its own conditions.

In Latvia the zones are published in the BGKIS system and visualised on the map at airspace.lv/drones. Before flying, the pilot must check which zones cover the planned location — some zones require the flight to be coordinated with the responsible authority in advance.
