CAA Latvia administers the qualification process for remote pilots operating in Latvia under Regulation (EU) 2019/947. The process depends on the intended subcategory of operation.
A1/A3 qualification
The A1/A3 online exam is conducted through the e.caa.gov.lv portal:
- Study the online training module (free, available in Latvian).
- Pass the online knowledge test (40 questions, 40-minute limit, 75% pass mark).
- Receive the A1/A3 proof of completion in the CAA UAS information system after passing.
The proof is valid for 5 years and recognised across the European Union. The public CAA page does not publish a separate A1/A3 retake waiting period; check the e.caa.gov.lv portal for the current exam flow after an unsuccessful attempt.
A2 qualification
The A2 certificate requires:
- A valid A1/A3 certificate.
- Passing the A2 theoretical knowledge exam at a CAA Latvia examination centre (not online).
- Completing self-declared practical self-study training (5 hours minimum recommended).
- Applying for the A2 certificate through the e.caa.gov.lv portal.
