U-space is the European Union's framework of digital services designed to manage large volumes of drone traffic in specially designated airspace volumes. It covers network identification, geo-awareness, flight authorisation and traffic information services.
The framework was established by Regulation (EU) 2021/664 and is being deployed gradually across the member states. The idea is simple: once many drones share the air at the same time, safe movement can no longer rely on pilots watching each other — automated digital services are needed.
