A legacy drone is an unmanned aircraft placed on the market without a C-class identification mark — before the class-mark regime fully applied on 1 January 2024. Many older consumer drones still in use fall into this group.
The transitional rules are simple: legacy drones under 250 g may fly in subcategory A1, while heavier legacy drones (under 25 kg) may only fly in A3, far from people and built-up areas. The middle-ground A2 option is no longer available to legacy drones.
