Critical infrastructure

A legally protected category of Latvian sites (energy, water, communications, military, border) where filming is banned without authorisation.

Critical infrastructure is a legally protected category of Latvian sites — energy, water, communications, military and border facilities. Photographing and filming them is banned without authorisation, and the sites are marked with the sign "BEZ SASKAŅOŠANAS FOTOGRAFĒT, FILMĒT AIZLIEGTS" (photography and filming prohibited without approval).

The key point: the filming ban is SEPARATE from airspace permission. A flight approval does not grant filming rights, and the ban applies at any altitude — even when the drone is far away and high up but its camera is pointed at the protected site.
