Regulation (EU) 2019/945 defines the technical requirements for unmanned aircraft systems and their components placed on the EU market, including class markings (C0–C6), remote ID, and geo-awareness capabilities.

UAS class markings

The regulation defines six UAS classes (C0 through C6), each with specific technical requirements. Class determines which Open subcategory operations the UA may perform:

ClassMax take-off massMain requirement
C0< 250 gNo class label required; private-build allowed
C1< 900 gRemote ID, geo-awareness
C2< 4 kgRemote ID, geo-awareness, low-speed mode
C3< 25 kgRemote ID, geo-awareness
C4< 25 kgNo autonomous flight modes

Remote identification (Remote ID)

C1–C4 class UAS must broadcast identification and location data in real time (Part 2–5 of the Regulation). This allows authorities and other airspace users to identify UA in flight.

Geo-awareness

C1–C3 class UA must be equipped with a geo-awareness system that provides the pilot with information about airspace limitations and alerts when the UA approaches a restricted zone.
