Sterile operating area

A deliberately distraction-free zone around the drone during critical phases — takeoff, landing, low manoeuvres: no bystanders, chats or last-second tasks.

A sterile operating area is a deliberately distraction-free zone around the drone during the critical phases of flight — takeoff, landing, low manoeuvres and battery swaps. Inside it there are no bystanders, no conversations and no last-second task changes.

The word "sterile" is borrowed from crewed-aviation cockpit rules and has nothing to do with cleanliness: sterile means free of everything that pulls the pilot's attention away at exactly the moments when mistakes cost the most.
