Can I fly a drone over private property in Latvia?

Private property is where drone pilots often mix up two different questions: airspace and privacy. A property boundary does not automatically create a no-fly zone for the air above it, but that does not mean every overflight or recording is sensible.

First check the airspace on airspace.lv/drones. If the property lies inside a UAS geographical zone, follow the zone process and file in UASIS when required.

Then apply CAA Latvia's local condition for third-party property: when overflying property owned by someone else, choose the shortest flight time and the safest trajectory where possible. In practice, do not loiter over a garden, yard, terrace or window. Cross only if it is needed for the safe route.

The camera is often the bigger issue. If your footage captures identifiable people, private activities, windows, gardens or repeated views of a home, aviation compliance is not the whole answer. Privacy and data-protection rules may matter, and even where the law is not tested, the flight can still be intrusive.

For planning, use the Latvia location hub, run the exact address through can I fly here, and cover the baseline in the A1/A3 course.

Frequently asked questions

+Do I need the owner's permission to overfly private property?

Aviation rules do not create an automatic owner-permission requirement for every overflight, but CAA local conditions call for the shortest and safest trajectory.

+Can I film a private home with a drone?

You must assess privacy and data protection. If identifiable people or private life are captured, the risk is much higher.
